Hi all, Aaron Stutz and Cynthia Bridge found an adult, non-breeding Slaty-backed Gull at the Johnson Creek Landfill this afternoon. I was just lucky to come across them and it as I was heading home from birding the Milwaukee lakefront with Tom Prestby. This bird was larger than the Ring-billed Gulls around and stockier than the Herring Gulls. It had a very streaked head, especially around the yellow eye. It had bright pink legs, dark mantle, quite a bit of white coming through the closed wingtips. When it opened its wings, there were mirrors on p9 & 10, and more white into the middle primaries (the "string of pearls"). A Lesser Black-backed Gull was also present, and gave for a nice comparison view. I have a couple pictures put up here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29292306@N08/8272671279and I know Cynthia was taking quite a few too, so hopefully hers are better than mine. Also of note, were 11 Greater White-fronted Geese, 2 Snow Geese, and a young Thayer's Gull. Townsend's Solitaire, Eared Grebe, scoters, Snowy Owl and others were still present along the Milwaukee lakefront today too, as others have mentioned. Good birding! -Ted Keyel Sun Prairie, Dane County #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
