This a.m. I did a quick approx. 2 mi walk at Scuppernong Ski/Hiking Trails in the S. Kettle Moraine. The trip produced nearly all of the species that will be breeding at the trail system this season. Species of note--- ACADIAN FLYC - one heard only (>5 times); 1st of season HOODED WARBLERS - counted 17 (!) singing males; a variety of song types can be heard, including at least one unusual variation, however the typical song is always the most common GOLDEN-CR KINGLET's - this one bears monitoring for potential breeding at some point; they have been present in the summer before at this location & there are a couple of birds that have been hanging around now for a couple of weeks CERULEAN - one singing male; 1st of season YELLOW-THR & BLUE-HEADED VIREOS - multiple singing individuals GREAT-CR FLYC BLUE-WINGED WARBLER - one heard CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER -two heard BLACK-THR GREEN WARBLER- four heard One final note...if you get out to the trail system early enough, you may hear one of the Whip-poor-will's that is in the area!
