I spent part of the day checking various spots. Starting at High Cliff SP were
FOY Rough-winged Swallows and Brown Thrashers. Also present were 25 Turkey
Vultures and an Osprey building its nest near the marina.
Church Rd pond had only ducks and gulls.
Horicon Marsh had its usual birds. However the board walk pond has been drawn
down, making excellent shorebird habitat. I spent quite some time there with 7
species present. FOY were Black-necked Stilt, Solitary and Least Sandpiper,
plus Killdeer, both yellowlegs and Pectoral Sandpipers.
The Breezy Pt/Jersey ponds are had standard species, with water levels dropping.
Lake Maria and Maria Rd pond had the usual species.
As I headed home I "rediscovered" the excellent pond at the junction of
A/Miller Rd in Green Lake county, north of Hwy 44. Good numbers of Bonaparte's
Gulls and a few ducks accompanied shorebirds. Greater Yellowlegs predominated
but there were at least 25 Pectoral Sandpipers, and 3 Dunlins along with
several other standard species. This pond if it holds water into May can
attract some good shorebirds, like the Ruff that was there a number of years
ago.
