The Wintonbury Coffeehouse E-mail Newsletter - October 2005

Contents:
I. This Month's Coffeehouse - Shepherd's Pi and Erica Soucy
II. Audio File of the Month - "Slipping" - Micah Vierling
III. Link of the Month - Dave Potts
IV. Last Month's Coffeehouse - Tree by Leaf and Brooke Campbell

I. Shepherd's pie is a tasty mixture of very different kinds of foods, and
Wintonbury's own Shepherd's Pi is likewise a very tasty mixture of very
different kinds of music. They play a little blues, rock, gospel, contemporary
show tunes, and some alternative acoustic music - and they have a lot of fun.
As with a shepherd's pie, these different flavors are all separate, but blend
together beautifully. Come on October 8th and enjoy the music of Josh and Tina
Levine, Anna Brewer, Bob LeBlanc, and Allen Cook in their second appearance at
the Wintonbury Coffeehouse.

We'll open the evening with a newcomer to the Wintonbury stage, Erica Soucy.
We met Erica at the September coffeehouse, when she came down from Maine with
her brother, Garrett Soucy of Tree by Leaf. Erica shares her brother's passion
for words and tunes, and we are looking forward to her first performance at
Wintonbury.

The Wintonbury Coffeehouse is held on the second Saturday of the month at
Wintonbury Baptist Church, 54 Maple Avenue, Bloomfield, Connecticut. Starting
time is 7:30 p.m., and the doors open at 7:00. There is no charge for
admission or refreshments. A $7 donation is suggested to cover expenses.

II. Audio File of the Month - "Further Away"
(http://www.wintonburycoffeehouse.org/audio) Micah Vierling sings about
changing priorities. Recorded at Wintonbury in May 2005.

III. Link of the Month - http://www.davepotts.com/ Dave's songs show us the
beauty in ordinary things and ordinary people, affirming our faith and
challenging us to really see the world around us. We're looking forward to
hosting him at the March 11, 2006 coffeehouse.

IV. Last Month's Coffeehouse - On the positive side, Tree by Leaf were great,
as usual. We especially enjoyed meeting Garrett and Siiri Soucy's baby
daughter, Noa, and Garrett's sister Erica. Unfortunately, opener Brooke
Campbell lost her voice during the afternoon, and even though we dosed her with
Throat Coat, she was unable to complete her set. She played some lovely
instrumental numbers and led the audience in singing a couple of hymns - and we
really appreciate her honoring her commitment even though she wasn't feeling
great. She'll be back very soon, hopefully with all her vocal cords humming.
Only about 25 people joined us for this coffeehouse, and we aren't sure why.
If you have any insight, please let us know.

We thank God that the sound system is back to normal - the snake turned out to
be undamaged, and the defective pieces have been satisfactorily replaced.

Our new challenge is Doug's left elbow. He tore his biceps tendon moving the
piano before the June coffeehouse, and will be undergoing surgery tomorrow to
reattach it. Please join us in praying for a successful surgery, quick
recovery, and plenty of help with the work of setting up and cleaning up the
coffeehouse, because Doug will have very little use of his left arm for several
months.
