The Wintonbury Coffeehouse E-mail Newsletter - December 2003 Contents: I. This Month's Coffeehouse II. Audio File of the Month III. Link of the Month - Nico IV. Last Month's Coffeehouse V. Coffeehouse List Updated I. Join us on Saturday, December 13th, as we welcome Wintonbury's own Body & Soul back to our stage. Body & Soul brought down the house at Wintonbury in June of 2002, playing their own brand of dynamic soul music flavored with jazz, pop, blues, and gospel. The core members of the band are Bob LeBlanc (guitar and vocals), Edmond Peart (drums and vocals), and bassist Allen Cook. For this appearance, they are adding saxophonist Glen Winfree and vocalist Susan Dailey. The band is working up some great Christmas material to include in this performance, and they may surprise us with a couple more special guest musicians. Join us for a great Christmas edition of the Wintonbury Coffeehouse! We'll open the evening with an instrumental set from Kris & Jen Allen and friends. Kris plays sax, Jen plays piano, and their friends play drums and bass. Together, they play some pretty cool and highly listenable jazz. We're sure you'll enjoy this combo in their second appearance at the Wintonbury Coffeehouse. The Wintonbury Coffeehouse is held on the second Saturday of the month at Wintonbury Baptist Church, 54 Maple Avenue, Bloomfield, Connecticut. Starting time is 7:30 p.m., and the doors open at 7:00. There is no charge for admission or refreshments, but a $7 donation is suggested. II. Audio File of the Month - http://wintonburycoffeehouse.org/audio.htm "Ever Ponder" Bryan Graves contemplates the wonders of creation and what it all means. Written after a trip to Acadia National Forest in Maine, and recorded live at Wintonbury on June 14, 2003. III. Link of the Month - http://www.sillyman.com - Site of Nico, that funk/rock/soul/acoustic/groove/bluesy/hippy-hearted whatever guy, who will be returning to Wintonbury for an acoustic set on January 10th. IV. Last Month's Coffeehouse - Wintonbury's first-ever New Artists Showcase went extremely well! Jillian Wright, Andrew Springman, David Brooke & Viewpoint, and Hitoshi Yamaguchi (the first person EVER to play a cello on our stage!) gave us a delightful and musically varied first set. Shana Cassidy and her friends followed with a dynamite set of their own - we don't know why every coffeehouse in the state isn't running to book this lady. And we also had the best seats in the house for a truly celestial show that night: the complete eclipse of the moon could be seen just outside our doors, and people were peeking out to catch its progress all through the evening. This edition of the Wintonbury Coffeehouse was enjoyed by about 125 people. V. Coffeehouse List Updated - We've completed our annual update of Christian coffeehouses in Connecticut and western Massachusetts, and have discovered that major changes have taken place in the Christian coffeehouse scene over the past year. Some coffeehouses we previously had on the list are no longer functioning, but we're glad to say that even more have started up. New in Connecticut this year are the Calvary Café in Enfield, Psalm 133 Café in Waterbury, and the First Congregational Church Coffeehouse in Thomaston. And across the border in western Massachusetts there has been a veritable explosion of Christian coffeehouses over the past year - too many to list here. Check them out at our web site - from the home page, click on "Links and Other Venues," and then select "Christian Coffeehouses." Please visit our web site at http://www.wintonburycoffeehouse.org for a complete schedule of upcoming coffeehouses, information for musicians interested in playing at Wintonbury, and more.
