This would be an admirable thing if it weren't for the fact that she's giving it to sister. :)

Thanks Sorin

Admirable that somebody might want to actually do this!

Dban is the way to go. Be aware that it might take a while to wipe it using
the standard wipe, the DoD one. A simple one-pass wipe will take about one
hour, depending on how fast the hd is.

See http://dban.sourceforge.net/. Download the iso and burn it to a cd and
boot from it. Voilá. And, it's free too! 8-D

Hi list,

A friend of mine has a Dell Inspiron laptop that she intends to give
away, but she wants to zero-out the hard drive before doing so, as she's
not comfortably with just a normal format. Does anyone know how to do
this? In my googling, I keep coming across a GWSCAN tool, but it seems
that the GW stands for Gateway, so I don't know if I should recommend
that. Any ideas?
