[windows2000] Windows updates affecting Word settings

I'm having an issue with Word 2K and Windows updates. Whenever I apply
updates to my W2K TS boxes, users report Word prompting them to save
"changes made to the global template" which they normally cancel. Their
respective normal templates seem unaffected, with custom toolbars,
autocorrect entries etc intact - but there's some weirdness...

Their MRU settings will be back at default levels (4 - most of the WP users
push this up to 9) and the MRU links themselves show those of the admin
user - their own MRU links are gone.

Autoformat/correct settings are reset to defaults - this they find
*extremely* annoying and of course take out their displeasure on yours
truly...
(Autocorrect entries themselves are unaffected).

Toolbar placement is likewise different, although custom toolbars are
retained. There's other bits 'n' pieces like show/hide being turned off. I
don't use Word at the console (any more!).

Can anybody shed any light on this for me? My TS boxes are at SP3 (plus
later patches), IE6SP1 and Office is at SP2. TIA (in hope!)...
