Not to be outdone by Microsofts announcement that they have released Virtual PC
SP1 to the general public VMware is announcing the General Availability of its
free server product. I love how they send out the announcement yesterday but
dated the download a day or two before Microsoft has for Virtual PC on their
site . Hmm.

Try out virtualization with VMware Server!
VMware Server is a free virtualization product for Windows and Linux servers
with enterprise-class support. It enables companies to partition a physical
server into multiple virtual machines and to start experiencing the benefits of
virtualization. Also, by deploying VMware VirtualCenter, administrators gain
centralized management to efficiently provision, monitor and manage their IT
infrastructure.
VMware Server brings benefits of virtualization to every server:
  - Run multiple operating systems and application on a single server.
  - Simplify server provisioning, monitoring and infrastructure management.
  - Streamline software development and testing by creating multiple, secure

  How does VMware Server work?
VMware Server is a thin virtualization layer that runs as an application on
top of a host Windows or Linux operating system. it partitions the physical
server enabling multiple virtual machines to run simultaneously on a single
server. Computing resources of the physical server are treated as a uniform
pool of resources that can be allocated to virtual machines in a controlled
manner.
VMware Server is a robust yet easy to use product for users new to server
virtualization. It is based on VMware?s proven technology, which has been used
by over 20,000 enterprise customers for more than six years.
