It is awesome technology, and its already being done!  From this link, VPC
looks like it will compete with VMWare workstation.  MS has a ways to go in
virtualizing PCs.

I suspect it will be a part of Longhorn to account for backwards
compatibility issues.
It is pretty awesome technology and you are going to be hearing a lot about
it!

Good question Jim.

Using a lot of VMWare, i thought without looking that this was Microsofts
entry into that market.  They bought another company and have been working
on this...

Correct me if I'm wrong.  As mature as VMWare is, I don't expect VPC to make
a splash until VPC 2006 or so.  But who knows.
