To update: The Problem: Could not complete dialup to ISP - result was
usually Error 50. I spent all
day trying to delete all references to WAN Miniport in the new XP registry.
From what followed I
probably deleted too much. In any event after many tries I repaired XP and ran
(again) SP1.

At the conclusion of repair I had NO network connections. When I attempted to
run New Connection
Wizard option to manually set up a connection was grayed out so couldn't
proceed.

At end of SP1 I had all of my Dialup configurations and started to dial from
default (which works on other
OS installed on same machine) when a popup message says System just detected
new installation of
RAS Asynch Adapter. The dialer was in the process of dialing when this
happened and then stopped.
This resulted in an instance of WAN Miniport in the Device manager. Probably
did the wrong thing but I
disabled the hardware without completing install. From then on got error
message that another process
was using the connection and dialer wouldn't work.

I really do not want to do a clean install in I can avoid it. If anyone has
any suggestions please pass
them along as not only I but my IT man are stumped!

Thanks in advance.
