Youre almost right there.

Ive done this before for some clients. The best way to go is.

Replace 1 drive at a time and wait till the rebuild process is finished on each
one. You could set the rebuild priority to medium (don't go high) on the ACU.

Once the rebuild on the last drive is done. You can then use the Compaq ACU to
expand or extend the logical drive (I forget which one to use). Then just use
disk manager to create/extend the volume set across the new unallocated space.

How about replacing one drive and letting the array rebuild, followed by the
second then the third. That would give you the original sized partition on
the new drives. Partition Magic could then be used to resize the partition.

NB I've only ever done this once when ghost wouldn't look at the array, but
it did work.

There is a church that I do work for that has a Compaq W2k Server set up in
a RAID 5 configuration on a Smart Array 5300.

The three drives in the machine are tiny and overloaded. The church bought
3 new drives to replace them, and have asked me to move the system to the
new drives.

I believe the system has 4 drive bays. Definitely not 6... Any
recommendations on imaging this configuration to a new RAID 5 set?

Thanks -

Bob Coffman
