[windows2000] Event log size on DCs?

Hi all,
I don't understand this problem:
I've set the GPO for my DCs so that the event log-size never gets
bigger than 10MB. Now, however, the logs increase to about 128MB
anyway!
Why???! I mean, the GPO is the default domain controllers policy,
and it ignores this??
I run windows server 2003 on both the affected servers.
The size wouldn't have been a problem, if I wouldn't have
administrated the DCs from my admin-workstation, so that when I
check the logs on the servers several hundred of eventlog messages
has to be transferred to my
workstation.
Searches on Technet, ntfaq.com and google didn't reveal anything
pertaining to this issue
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thx.
