AFAIK, as long as the rest of the hardware devices (particularly mobo) are
identical, the installed CPU should not matter on a single processor board.

Subject: [windows2000] CPU question
I am soon to acquire a new server operating Windows 2003 as a terminal
server for the pupils classrooms. I now have a 2000 fileserver with a
Pentium III cpu and 750 MB ram. My question is a hardware one.
I have another server with the same type motherboard as the present
Windows 2000 but with a pentiun II CPU. I would like to upgrade the
hardware of this server using the "old" Windows 2000 hardware and
wondered what the best way of doing it WITHOUT any damage to the present
software workings of this server. This server is the main administrative
server of the school and although it needn't have the most modern
programs, it cannot be taken down for too much readapting. I thought
that I could just replace that cpu with my "old" pentium III cpu. Can I
just remove and replace CPU's without any problems or am I in danger of
messing up something in the Server? Maye there are better ways of using
the "old" Windows 2000 server hardware for the administrator server.
