They are both in my house. My desktop is in my living room and my laptop is in my bedroom.

Unless you are tunneling between the machines over the internet, i.e. connecting from your work computer to your home computer or something like that, the type of internet connection you have should not impact the lan performance between your local machines. I had assumed that your laptop and desktop computers were in the same location/house and not connected over the internet.Cheers, Doris At 10:26 AM 1/30/2009 -0500, you wrote:The thing to is that this is DSL and I wonder if this has something to do with it because when I was on cable, I didn't have this problem. If you're on your desktop, and your music is on a drive that's connected to your laptop and you're listening to it through that, then yes, there's a possibility that you might get some buffering especially if other stuff is happening, like if files are being moved around, etc. Try hooking the drive *directly* to the computer you'll actually be listening to the music on. Does the sound still start and stop a lot? If yes, it's a network issue. If not, something else might be happening. At 08:50 AM 1/30/2009, you wrote:Have You should be able to try out whether the problem occurs because you are playing over the network by connecting your external directly to your desktop computer. If this fixes the buffering issue, the problem is the network; if it still occurs, the problem might be something on your desktop computer.hth Doris At 08:44 AM 1/30/2009 -0500, you wrote:Hi listers!I have a network connection to my laptop and desktop. All my music is on an external hard drive that is connected to my laptop computer. Last night, I was playing some music through my network and I notice something with it. Every now and then, the track I am listening to stop in Winamp. I guess you can say it locks up then starts again. Then locks up then starts again. Basically what I am saying is that it sounds like it is buffering. When I go to the laptop and play the same track, it works fine. I am trying to figure out if this is a network issue, or a connection to the network that Winamp is having a problem with. If this question is to technical for the list, I'm sure the administrator will have my hide!
