I sure wish there was a better way but the closest you will come is to check the status line with your screan reader of choice in windows XP This assumes you are in a folder of songs or using windows explorer. you will hear such things as the album and year and a few other short parts of the tag that can fit on this line. I am fanatical about organizing my music and using ID3 tags since I have about 30,000 mp3 files on my drive.

Hi Adam,

In your reply to Rudy, you wrote:

"...Note there is tag info for version 1 and 2 of the ID3 tags and both
contain the same info. The difference is
that v2 fields can hold much more text then version 1. I'd recommend
filling out both. In fact some of my albums contain the entire liner notes
in the comment field of version 2 of the ID3 tag. ..."

Is there an easy way using Winamp to view such notes or fields when using
Winamp itself or in Windows Explorer?
(other than loading the file into Winamp and pressing alt + 3 and tabbing
around)

Thanks.

You will want to check and edit the ID3 tags of your mp3 files. There are
many great programs for working with ID3 tags but that would be off topic
for this list. You can use winamp to edit ID3 tags as well by hitting alt 3
to bring up the box for ID3 tag info. You can tab around this box and fill
in the appropriate info for each song. Note there is tag info for version 1
and 2 of the ID3 tags and both contain the same info. The difference is
that v2 fields can hold much more text then version 1. I'd recommend
filling out both. In fact some of my albums contain the entire liner notes
in the comment field of version 2 of the ID3 tag. Hope this helps.

what has happened is that when I had to use goldwave, it only gave me
numbers.wav, but I had gone to cddb.com and got the names of the tunes on
that particular cd, I had to type all that in, but what I am getting is
the numbers when I am playing them in winamp,.

Is there anything I could do that will show the actual names of the songs
I am playing and how do I go on into accomplishing this task?

I thank all who might have an idea or two. Don't hesitate to explain
things as much as you wish.

Rudie from Toronto Canada.
