Where possible, residents should also monitor the work that the contractors
are performing on pipes beneath their sidewalks. A neighbor reports that he
discovered that a PVC pipe with a foot-long gash had been installed and
another pipe was installed improperly (requiring water to flow uphill to
drain to the street). Had he not discovered these errors and reported them,
these faulty replacement pipes would have remained.
