Dear Whitman Families and Friends
Thank you to those that attended the Spellman Magic Spectacular this past
Saturday, the Families seemed to really enjoyed themselves and Mr. Spellman
put on a fantastic show.
Here are some friendly reminders on what's happening around Whitman
Elementary.
Red Ribbon Week
October 24 - October 28
Please check your child's backpack for the Agenda of this week's activities.
Monday - Wear Red, Use your Head Day!
Wear your Red, you'll also be getting a Red Ribbon that you can wear all
week long.
Tuesday - Drugs Turn you Inside Out Day
Show that drugs won't turn you inside out by wearing your clothes inside
out.
Wednesday - Catch the Drug Free Wave: "Lei-Off" Drugs Day
Wear your favorite Hawaiian style clothes or anything with flowers, no
mid-riffs or spaghetti straps to school today to show you live a drug free
life.
Thursday - "Paws"-itivily Drug Free Day
Show your school Spirit by wearing your cougar shirt and/or lots of blue
today. Let's be one school with one goal - to be drug free. Everyone who
participates will get a treat after lunch.
Whitman Cougars are too cool to do drugs!
Friday - Drugs are Ridiculous
Come to school looking "RIDICULOUS"? Wear mixed-up, mismatched, backwards
clothes and shoes, plus crazy hair to show that you can make smart choices.
Don't be ridiculous by getting mixed up with drugs, tobacco, and alcohol.
November 4
Ice-Cream Party for the participants in the Fall Fundraiser that sold at
least one item. If you are available to volunteer to help hand out ice
cream treats during lunch time, let the Whitman PTA know.
November 11
Veteran's Day - No School
November 21 - November 25
Thanksgiving Break
December 1
Star Party - Stay Tuned for Details, 3rd Grade will be selling food to raise
funds for a field trip.
December 5 - December 8
Whitman PTA will be hosting a holiday shop to allow students to learn the
joys of giving can be just as fun as receiving. We'll be looking for
volunteers to help run the shop during school hours from Monday - Thursday.
Stayed tuned for details.
December 9
Glow Jam Party - Participants that sold 10 items will be invited to a party
where they can have fun and earn more prizes.
Volunteer Opportunities
You can make a difference by volunteering the following ways:
Parent Reps - Whitman PTA Board has room for a parent to serve as a rep for
Pre-K, 3 - 6 grades.
Banking Days - Mission Federal can use help on banking days which are on
Wednesdays except for the First Wednesday of the month
School Site Council - there is room for parents to serve on the SSC Board.
There is a training being offered to the San Diego Unified Council of PTA's
on November 12, see attached flyer for details. If you are interested to
learn more, call the school at (858) 273-2700.
