Hi Morry,

I understand it was just a little grass roots thing :) None of the =
bigger
surveys I've done in the past would have officially passed muster with a
statistical analyst either, but I've spent a lot of time studying how to
make usable surveys nonetheless.

The problem is that when you have any question with a finite number of
answers (ie., the country people are from) and use an open text answer, =
two
things happen: first, people put in their own variations (USA, US, =
United
States, America, etc) making it impossible to compile. Second, Survey =
Monkey
doesn't do what it does best - compile the results in such a way that =
you
can see at a glance what the results are (ie, 10% from UK, 58% from US, =
4%
from India, etc).=20

There is always some bit of data manipulation necessary from Survey =
Monkey -
and sometimes open text answers make a lot of sense. But done =
differently,
your informal survey could have leant itself to being exported right =
into
Excel and charts made from the results of the answers. As it is, someone
would need to manually go through all the answers, and count - okay, how
many for this answer, how many for that answer, does this answer mean =
the
same as that answer, etc

I hope that clarifies what I'm talking about! I don't mean to pick on =
you -
your efforts are appreciated!

No problem Eileen thanks for offering to help. If you want to come up =20
with a new questions based on the ones we have you can provide that =20
at any time and we can save it for future use no need to wait until =20
next year if you already have ideas. I'm so grateful for your kind =20
offer since we have such limited resources and I'm doing the best I =20
can do with a volunteer community with no dues, fees, or revenue stream.

Just to clarify, this was never mentioned to be a formal or official =20
report and it kind of spontaneously grew out some inquiries about =20
freelance salaries. I had originally just posted the info to the =20
list and some folks said they they though it would be better if we =20
did an anonymous polling. This was never meant to be a big formal =20
survey because we know that there are things like the HOW Design =20
survey, Aquent salary survey or the Salary.com survey which all list =20
details on full time web producer salaries.

As a spontaneous polling it may be useful for people to glance at the =20
different salaries and click the "view detail" button to scroll =20
through the individual responses based on location to get a quick =20
glance at freelance rates.
