I think my suggestion may have been misunderstood. As I understand it Vista SP1 shares much common code with WS2008 - does the driver exhibit the same behaviour on WS2008? If not it may help narrow down the options for problem resolution.

No, I didn't. I'm a driver developer so it will be a strange thing to
recommend all my users to replace their Vista systems with Server 2008.
