2006 Summer Institute at UW-Milwaukee

Would you like to teach American Sign Language in Wisconsin Public Schools? Then you must consider attending the 2006 Summer Institute at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee!

The UWM Departments of Exceptional Education and Curriculum & Instruction are pleased to announce the 2006 Summer Institute for teachers of ASL as a foreign language. This exciting opportunity will include four courses that will be taught over six weeks during the summer (June 19-July 27). The goal of this Summer Institute is to help individuals obtain an initial teaching permit and to get students started on coursework that can be applied toward our teacher certification program.

The Summer Institute is a teacher permit training program. This means that upon completion of the summer coursework, students may apply for an initial permit to teach ASL in Wisconsin Public Schools. To obtain this permit, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction requires that students attend the Summer Institute, complete the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) with a score of 3 or higher, and obtain at least a Provisional level certification from the American Sign Language Teacher Association (ASLTA).

Don’t miss out on your chance to start on the track to be an ASL teacher! To find out if you are eligible and for more information, please contact:
