WORLD DEAF NEWS
-New Zealand recently passed the New Zealand Sign Language Bill making
New Zealand Sign Language the nation's
third official language after English and Te Reo Maori. The law also
gives (more) equal rights to deaf New Zealanders,
providing more access to information. Third official language! Cheers
and hats off to the coordination of the New
Zealand Parliament and the Governor-General Dame Silvia Cartwright who
acceded to the historic bill recently.
-Gallaudet University's Presidential Search Team narrows it down to
three finalists out of a pool of 21 candidates to
replace I. King Jordan upon his retirement this coming December 31st,
2006. The three finalists are named as follows:
Gallaudet Provost's Jane Fernandes, Mexico School for the Deaf's
Superintendent Ronald Stern, and Gallaudet's
Department of Communication Studies associate professor Stephen Weiner
