MADISON AREA NEWS -- Shore to Shore News -- NO Madison Deaf Senior Housing Meeting in August -- Aug 1: ADA Day at the Mallards -- Aug 4: Columbus Annual Picnic -- Aug 23: Picnic in the Park -- Sand Volleyball @ CRI ================================================== Shore to Shore News Hello everyone,I wanted to give you an update and reminder that Family Enhancement/Shore to Shore is no longer offering formal American Sign Language classes. We have been advocating that interested people take the non-credit Sign Language classes with MATC’s Adult and Continuing Education. With this email, I wanted to help people with this transition.
I also wanted to clarify that Shore to Shore will continue to offer opportunities for families with D/HH children to gather for information and support. Because of varying needs and interests, we will have evenings for families with young children, families with older children, and grandparents of D/HH children. We will help celebrate Deaf Awareness Week by starting to watch and discuss the PBS documentary “Through Deaf Eyes”. There will also be daytime opportunities for playgroup/storytime. In these smaller groups, we will continue to address people’s need for sign language instruction as well as people’s need for information on auditory and speech resources. We will continue to offer childcare activities during these evenings, for children of all ages. Finally, we will continue to offer resource and referral services.
Shore to Shore’s fall schedule will be finalized by mid-August and distributed at the Family Potluck Picnic on August 23rd. If you have any wishes for certain programming topics or times, please contact me as soon as possible.
MATC Sign Classes: For Fall 2007:Level 1 class information is available online at www.matcmadison.edu. Click on a-z index, click on ACE (Adult and Continuing Ed), click on courses and then scroll down to Sign Language. This will bring you to what is available for Level 1. The catalog number is 42-533-400.
Level 2 (Tues evenings) and Level 3 (Wed evenings) information is not listed online, however they are available. Childcare will be offered for both classes. Classes will begin in mid-Sept and end mid-November and will be held at the Catholic Multicultural Center located at 1862 Beld Street. (Beld Street intersects with Park Street at both ends. Do a mapquest for more specifics.) This building is fairly new and has great classrooms, a childcare room and very easy parking. Contact Nancy Gasser to register (608-258-2309 or ngasser@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx).
For each class, MATC needs at least 8 people registered. So please spread the word.
Thank you for your time and I hope to see you soon.
