MoPix Update from WGBH- Aug 4
A NEW MOPIXED FILM BOWS THIS WEEK...
Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby starring Will Ferrell from
Sony Pictures (cc dvs) (rated PG-13)
NASCAR stud Ricky Bobby (Will Ferrell) is a national hero and the best
driver in the biz. His racing partner, childhood friend Cal Naughton Jr.
(John C. Reilly), makes for a great teammate, who almost always crosses
the finish line in second place, right behind Ricky. But when a French
Formula One driver, Jean Girard (Sacha Baron Cohen) challenges the duo
for racing supremacy, it's a battle the likes of which the sporting
world has never seen.

The Ant Bully (cc dvs) debuts in the MoPix-equipped auditorium this week!
QUOTE OF NOTE
We received these nice comments this week from a description fan in
Massachusetts. Why don't you write, too? We'll share your feedback with
MoPix fans and with the studios and theater chains. Send your comments
to mary_watkins@xxxxxxxxx
SLD writes:
"I don't even try to go to movies anymore that don't have description
and I use to be an avid movie-goer. I saw 'Pirates of the Caribbean:
Dead Man's Chest' last week and would have been COMPLETELY LOST without
the description! I was even able to 'straighten out' my husband about
some of the things going on that he missed! Also, the staff at (National
Amusements) Blackstone Valley , where I saw 'Pirates' were fabulous!
Well-trained and genuinely interested in the description and, when I was
exiting, wanted to know if the description was all that I hoped/expected."
AUSTIN, TX MOPIX LOCATION WINS ACCESS AWARD!
Congratulations to the AMC Barton Creek Square 14 theater in Austin for
its 2006 Austin Access Award which "recognizes outstanding businesses
for their demonstrated commitment to the spirit of the Americans with
Disabilities Act." Way to go!
A PAUSE FROM NEWS ABOUT ACCESSIBLE MOVIES FOR NEWS ABOUT ACCESSIBLE
ONLINE VIDEO...
America Online (AOL), in collaboration with WGBH's Media Access Group,
is now testing closed captions for streaming news content from CNN that
will enhance the online media experience for people who are deaf or hard
of hearing. Captioned CNN video content will be available throughout the
AOL network, including the AOL service, the free AOL.com Web portal
(http://www.aol.com) and the AOL Video portal
(http://www.aol.com/video). For more information, including system
requirements to view the captioned video, please see
http://ncam.wgbh.org/news/aol.html. Thanks to the NEC Foundation of
American and AOL for their support of and commitment to this pioneering
effort to make news delivered via the Web more accessible.
... AND GUIDELINES FOR ACCESSIBLE DIGITAL MATERIALS
WGBH's National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM) has just published
Guidelines for Accessible Digital Materials. These guidelines, which
provide step-by-step solutions as well as information on public policies
and standards pertaining to access to users with sensory disabilities,
are available free of charge on a CD (write to access@xxxxxxxx for
single or multiple copies, remember to include your postal address,
shipping is also free) or download them directly from the web at
http://ncam.wgbh.org/publications/adm/
Funding for this project was provided by a three-year grant to NCAM from
the National Institute on Disability Rehabilitation Research, U.S.
Department of Education.
NOW BACK TO THE MOVIE NEWS
NEW REFLECTOR DESIGN
The Rear Window Reflector now has an updated design thanks to the work
of Boston Light & Sound (long-time manufacturer of the reflector) and
Multi Design for People (www.designforpeople.org/), an industrial design
firm specializing in inclusive built environments, products and
information graphics. Please link to the MoPix Web site (www.mopix.org),
scroll down about half way down the page and you'll see a link to an
image of the updated design and ordering information. Due to requests
over the years, these reflectors are available for sale to individuals
