Providing Alcohol, Drug Abuse, HIV/AIDS, Mental Health and Bullying
Prevention Education
Educating and communicating with Deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing
kindergarten to 12th graders children in collaboration with their
parents who are attending residential or mainstream school is very
crucial part of any kind of prevention. Teachers who continue to
provide everyday education to children, however; parents also play an
important role in providing continuing education to their children.
If teachers or/and their parents do not provide accurate AODA (Alcohol
and Other Drug Abuse) education to their Deaf, deafblind or hard of
hearing children, these children will be vulnerable to develop AODA
problems in their future. What's more, deaf/deafblind and hard of
hearing children do not have access to AODA prevention videotapes with
closed-caption, series of AODA promotion or discussion on radio,
education promotions on television due to not having the ability to hear.
If no one provides AODA prevention to this vulnerable Deaf, deafblind or
hard of hearing children, then who will?
I am the Project Coordinator for a project to improve AODA outcomes for
persons who are Deaf, Deafblind or Hard of Hearing in the state of
Wisconsin and I am able to offer AODA prevention educational services to
deaf/deafblind/ hard of hearing children for FREE. I will provide a
weekly educational series from September to December 2006 for youth from
kindergarten to 12 graders.
Here are some ideas for AODA prevention education series can be provided:
