TRAINING: C-Print and TypeWell Training Stipends

PEPNet-Midwest is extending a reimbursement opportunity to individuals in the Midwest Region who successfully complete C-Print or TypeWell training between 10/1/06 and 9/30/07.

PEPNet-Midwest Region: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wisconsin

Training must be completed between 10/1/06 and 9/30/07. Successful completion is determined by C-Print and TypeWell training programs.

Stipends are awarded after training is complete and paperwork is received. A total of 10 C-Print training stipends and 10 TypeWell training stipends are available for reimbursement between 10/1/06 and 9/30/07.

The maximum individual reimbursement is $300.

Sep 14-16: Rx for Success Seminar

Sinai's Deaf Access Program & CATIE Center at the College of St. Catherine
are proud to host "A Prescription for Success: An Intensive 3-Day Seminar for ASL Interpreting in Medical Settings"
at Mount Sinai Hospital on September 14th, 15th, and 16th

This 3-day intensive seminar is designed for ASL interpreters who are highly motivated to provide medical interpreting for Deaf, hard of hearing, and Deaf-Blind patients. This seminar will include exciting workshops such as "The Demand-Control Schema" and " Use of ASL Classifiers in Medical Settings" Daily opportunities for hands-on activities and role-playing with actual doctors and patients from Mount Sinai Hospital will be available for seminar attendees. The seminar will also provide ideas for mentoring, internships, and independent studies as the next step for professional development.

The national American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA) Board decided they would like to have a slide show on "Great ASL Teachers" IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO DIED. This slideshow will be presented during the ASLTA conference in October 2007. Those that came to mind are: Gil Eastman, Geoff Mathay, Clayton Valli, Stephen Ryan, Esabelle Calvacca, Alan Barwiolek, Lou Fant, and many more.

I would like nominations of names you consider as "Great ASL Teachers" in Wisconsin (deceased only). Please send me pictures and info on anyone that should be in this slideshow (including those mentioned above).
