GOING ON VACATION?

Please let your WADNet Post Editor keep her sanity this summer...thanks!

If you go on vacation, use this REALLY COOL little tool: the Vacation
Flag. It will temporarily stop your WADNet Post email while you are
away. After you return, you can set it back to normal again. Nice,
huh? No overflowing email from WADNet Post when you come back!

Here's how:

TO GO ON VACATION:
Send an email:
TO: ecartis@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
SUBJECT: "set wadnetpost vacation" (don't include the quotes)
Leave the rest of the email blank. You will remain subscribed to the
list but will not receive any email as long as this flag is set.

You should get a reply email telling you "flag successfully set". Happy
Travels!

TO COME BACK FROM VACATION:
Send an email:
TO: ecartis@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
SUBJECT: "unset wadnetpost vacation" (don't include the quotes)
Leave the rest of the email blank.

You should get a reply telling you "flag was successfully unset".
Welcome home!

If you have trouble with this tool, or if you have questions, just ask
me. I am happy to help!

Thanks, everybody!

SPECIAL REQUEST:
Due to popular demand by the attendees at the Deaf Picnic last year,
they would like to have desserts at the picnic again this year on August
18th.

Can some members please bring some desserts... here are the following
requests:
~ Desserts must be cut into individual pieces.
~ Each piece must be individually wrapped in a CLEAR SARAN WRAP
~ This is important: If any nuts (including peanut butter) is one of
the ingredients in the dessert, PLEASE write a small note on the
individual pieces indicating

it has nuts/peanut butter. Reason: some people are allergic to nuts.
~ Please make desserts that do not require the use of forks or spoons.
(We will not provide any forks or spoons.)
~ NO PIES, please!

I appreciate your help!

Thank you,
Susie Kelly
Deaf PIcnic Secretary

Oct 1: CONTEST - Broadband Changed My Life!

Cash Prizes: "Broadband Changed My Life" Contest!

Cash Prizes Available in "Broadband Changed My Life" Contest!

The Alliance for Public Technology (APT), a nonprofit association urging
greater deployment of broadband, or high speed Internet access, is
running a nationwide contest to highlight the breadth and scope of the
impact using broadband can have at the personal level. APT wants you to
share your story on line. They are offering a grand prize of $1,000, a
second place prize of $500 and a third place prize of $250 to the best
submissions. Awardees stories will also be highlighted on the APT web
site and featured in APT-sponsored publications.

People with disabilities are encouraged to go to the web site at
http://ga3.org/campaign/contest and enter the contest before the
deadline of October 1, 2007.

Perhaps as a Video Relay Service user your story of reaching an employer
and securing a great job could be known through this contest? Perhaps
you are a person with a disability running a business online that uses
high speed Internet and this made you richer or off public supports?
Perhaps you can now download and listen more quickly to audioclips of
books and materials where previously you had to wait months for the
brailled version to arrive via regular mail? Maybe your use of high
speed broadband allows you to do some things that formerly with dial-up
Internet access you couldn't do and it changed your life. If so, please
share your story and win some cash as well! AAPD urges you to get your
story in soon! Please pass this contest notice along to others also, thanks!

More about APT is available at http://www.apt.org and click on the
"Broadband" contest button.
