We are pleased to announce the Interdisciplinary Conference of Young Earth System Scientists 2013 (http://icyess.eu/). ICYESS is an international and interdisciplinary conference organised by and for young scientists (Master's and PhD students as well as PostDocs). The conference brings together scientists from various disciplines including natural, social and political sciences, economics and sustainability research. The main purpose of the conference is to promote interdisciplinary exchange and mutual understanding between the diversity of research fields in Earth system sciences. It will enable you to present and discuss your own research in an interactive and innovative way, and to expand your networks at an early career stage. The common theme of this conference is Understanding and Interpreting Uncertainty. This means that we invite you to join ICYESS to present your research on all aspects of Earth system sciences; and in doing that to explain how you deal with uncertainty in your work or respective discipline. Information on our 5 preliminary sessions, and a detailed description of two sessions, is available on http://meetings.copernicus.org/icyess2013/thematic_focus_2013.html To guide our discussion we will have three keynote lectures: * Physical aspects of the Earth system by Eli Tziperman (Harvard University, US) * Economics of climate, energy and the environment by Richard Tol (University of Sussex, UK) * Environmental law and politics by Joyeeta Gupta (University of Amsterdam, NL) Additionally, we would like to hint at our panel discussion with the title =E2=80=9EUncertainty at the science-policy interface: why does it all= go wrong?=E2=80=9C. The preliminary programme is available on http://meetings.copernicus.org/icyess2013/programme.html There are no participation fees for ICYESS 2013. We can offer a limited number of travel stipends. Moreover, we are happy to provide qualified and attentive child care offered by the Studierendenwerk Hamburg (http://meetings.copernicus.org/icyess2013/venue/child_care.html). For more information please see the attached PDF or visit: http://icyess.eu= / Don't miss to apply (http://meetings.copernicus.org/icyess2013/abstract_submission/how_to_submi= t_an_abstract.html)! Attention: Submission deadline is on the June 1, 2013! PLEASE DISTRIBUTE THE CALL! Thank you. We are looking forward to your applications and welcome you in September in Hamburg.
