Sue's friends,
I wanted to update you on what's happening with Sue. Many of you
know that she underwent thoracic surgery last Friday morning. The
fluid build up on her right lung had become life threatening, so
her
oncologist set up a procedure called, talc paradiesis. It
essentially glues the lung to the pleural wall, thus eliminating
any
space in which fluid can build up. The surgery, which was done
entirely with arthroscopy, was highly successful. In fact, when
her
sister Gail and i first saw her in the recovery room, she was just
grinning to herself. I asked her about the smile and, even though
she hadn't been told that the surgery had been successful, she
said
it just felt good to get a lung full of air.
Please know though that this treatment, like all others for
secondary breast cancer, is treating the symptoms; the disease
will
continue on its course unless we get a true miracle. However, Sue
and I have long ago faced this notion, so we are most happy to get
this gracious reprieve. Keep up your healing thoughts and
prayers.
