Hi
My boss is rewriting the Student Support Services Handbook and came to me with
what had been in the old handbook regarding IEP Criteria. (see the old criteria
below) She wants help rewording it and
I need help from you!
Do you have comparable eligibility guidelines that would be easy to access?
electronic? I don't know where to start and I certainly don't want to create
the wording on my own!! And perhaps this is
okay as it is...???

But... I thought I'd ask the listserve since I see so much help coming from
this listserve.
If you have anything you can pass on to me, I would be very grateful!
Thanks.

Ruth Ferguson

the existing criteria says...

Blindness

To be eligible the following must be met:
A student with severe vision impairment is one who:
-has corrected vision so limited that it is inadequate for most of all
instructional situations, and information must be presented through other
means; and
-has a visual acuity ranging from 6/60 (20/200) in the better eye after
correction, to having no usable vision or a field of vision reduced to an angle
of 20 degrees.

For those students who may be difficult to assess (e.g. cortical
blindness-developmentally delayed), a functional vision assessment by a
qualified specialist in the field of ision or a medical
professional may be sufficient to support eligibility.
