Maintenance Pack 3 released for Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 5.0 Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces the release of Maintenance Pack 3 for Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 5.0. The pack introduces a number of new features and product improvements. Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 5.0 is designed to protect personal computers running under MS Windows from viruses and other malicious programs. The program reliably monitors all potential infection vectors - removable and fixed storage devices, email and Internet protocols. All potentially vulnerable objects are monitored upon access, and scanning on demand allows users to check either individual files or entire folders and drives. Scanning can be initiated manually or scheduled when convenient for the user. Furthermore, updates to the antivirus databases are available hourly. Maintenance Pack 3 offers users new options to improve program efficiency and to make the program easier to use. For instance, to increase productivity, the treatment of infected and potentially malicious objects can be delayed until the entire scan is completed. System load can be reduced by turning off real-time protection for pre-determined periods or until the computer is connected to the Internet. Furthermore, Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 5.0 now contains a new option - Threats and Exceptions. This option allows users to specify objects - such as files and masks to folders or drives - that they would prefer to exclude from real-time protection. Users have access to two types of antivirus databases with Maintenance Pack 3: standard and extended. Standard databases contain signatures for all viruses and other malware that Kaspersky Lab detects and disinfects. The extended databases include additional signatures designed to detect adware, spyware, hacker utilities, and other potential cyber threats. Maintenance Pack 3 allows users to switch back and forth between these types of updates without downloading the updates immediately. With Maintenance Pack 3, users may also now exclude memory, boot sectors and objects executed on system start up from real-time protection. Windows XP users can use the Fast User Switch option to modify reports without turning protection off. Additionally, the pack contains a modified mechanism for determining network connections.
