Hey Christina,
If I’ve understood what you need correctly, this should do the trick.
Assuming you wanted a count of all cells with content in them in a filtered
range, and the overall range is A2 to A1000 for arguments sake.
Formula is:
=subtotal(3,A2:A1000)
This performs the same type of count as the =counta(A2:A1000) formula, except
that it takes into account that you only want the cells that are on screen
after you’ve applied the filter.
If instead you want only to know the count of cells which have a number in
them, rather than anything at all, then replace the 3 in that formula with a 2.
=subtotal(2,A2:A1000) is the equivalent to the =count formula, but again just
taking in cells that are there after the filter was applied.

Of course, sorry.
So, i have a list of requests which are made to different divisions -
culture, heritage, gaeltacht etc. - and I need to count how many were made
to each devision. So when I filter by devision (because everything is on
one excel sheet), I want to be able to quickly count the number of cells
with information in them.
