In addition to steps already given, if you haven't done so already, empty the deleted items folder in Outlook Express - from the message list, e y y, and before that, delete messages from Outlook Express that you no longer require.

Joe,Outlook Express needs to compact all its stuff now and then. Let it do its thing. Sometimes Outlook Express can become corrupted, if not compacted enough.There is a Disk Cleanup utility that you can run, in programs Accessories system Tools, to help delete temporary files and empty the Recycle Bin. Also, it may be a good idea to run Disk Defragmenter.
