Introduction:
This lesson moves on to paragraph formatting and how to align paragraphs to
the left, right, center, or justified on a page.

Step 1.
Open up a word document blank page and type in a line of text. Place the
insertion point anywhere in the line you just typed in using the arrow keys
or mouse.

*. For mouse users, Click the Center button on the Formatting toolbar .

*. For Screen reader users, Another way to center is to press Ctrl + E .

The first line, the document's title, is centered between the left and right
margins.
Good thing here is that you didn't have to select the text in the paragraph
like you have to do when formatting fonts. Now let's add a new line with the
date.

Step 2.
Press "End key" to move the insertion point to the end of the current line
and press Enter .

Note:The new paragraph is also centered like the one above it. That's
because when you press Enter, the new paragraph "inherits" the same
formatting as the paragraph
above it.

Step 3.
Select Insert → Date and Time from the menu .
*. Mouse/Magnification users, click on the insert menu and select "Date and
time"
You can have Word automatically insert today's date by selecting;

Insert → Date and Time from the menu.

The Date and Time dialog box opens, Word automatically inserts the date,
based on your computer's internal clock. Make sure that
the "Update automatically" check box is not checked, or the date will change
every time you save or print the document.
Note: it is useful in some cases to have the date update as for example when
using a letter template and you want the current date on it whenever you are
writing up a new letter.
*. For keyboard users, you can insert the current date by using keys, "left
alt + shift + letter d"

Step 4.
Click the third option from the list, and click OK , keyboard users, tab
arrow down to the third option in the list and tab to the ok button then
press enter key.

Today's date (or the date your computer thinks it is) is inserted into the
document.

Step 5.
Move the insertion point anywhere in the inserted date field and Click the
Justify button on the Formatting toolbar .
*. Keyboard users: Another way to justify is to press Ctrl + J .

The paragraph is justified-both the left and right edges of the paragraph
are even.

Repeat Step 5 in the two other body paragraphs that you will have created
earlier. This was done by you typing in a couple of paragraphs at the
beginning.

Step 6.
Press Ctrl + End to move the insertion point to the end of the document and
press Enter twice .

*. Mouse users:Click the Align Right button on the Formatting toolbar .

*. Keyboard users:Another way to align right is to press Ctrl + R .

The result of this action is that The paragraph is formatted to the very
right of the margin.

If you want to change the alignment of your paragraphs the hard way, you can
also use the, Format menu, "alt + O" and arrow down to Paragraph from the
menu .

Theparagraph dialogue box appears, Here you can select paragraph alignment
from the Alignment list. Although it's much easier and faster to use the
Formatting
toolbars to align paragraphs, if you are formatting another element of a
paragraph, such as its spacing (more on that later!), you might as well use
the
Paragraph dialog box to adjust the paragraph alignment at the same time.

Now that you have aligned all the paragraphs in your document, you can close
the Paragraph dialog box.

Step 7.
Tab key and either press enter key or Click Cancel to close the Paragraph
dialog box .
