Hi Gerry I support you in this one. Another alternative is the eircom phone book online. I have tried to post the link to the eircom phone book online but for some reason I cannot do so. I noticed Joan Ann also tried. Anyway if you do a google search for the eircom phonebook online it's quite good. You type in the name of the person you are looking for in one box and the address in the other box, however you must also tick whether it is residential or business you are looking for. They are also conducting a survey at present as to the usefulness of the website so its worth a try and getting your opinions in to them. Yes the service of 196 is great but the other day I rang and gave my name. I was asked abruptly for my pin, but not my name first! They had my name of course, which I firstly gave them bbut they took me through their rigmarool firstly so I could get the number I required which I needed fairly quickly! Am not easily daunted I assure you but it "knocked me for six" as they say! Am looking now at the internet options for getting telephone numbers I need. Anyone now tell me how to get telephone numbers re the net? It's a great service and I do not know of any other company that provides it. Over the years I have come to know some of the telephonists in Cork, Tralee and Dublin. For some unknown reason two weeks ago a new system was introduced which introduces the service: 'welcome to 196 free directory enquiries'. Then, as previously the individual telephonist introduces themselves by way of a digital recording with words such as'hello may I help you?'. Now however they do not say their name. I know from speaking to a number of them that they think this is crazy and prefer to keep the personal touch. I rang Eircom Customer Care and my suggestion/complaint was logged for some meeting to be held next month. May I invite you if you feel the same to ring or email eircom to ask for a return to the practice of including the telephonists name when introducing the service? Please feel free to share this suggestion/email with others. Bring back the personal touch. Thanks, Gerry
