Hi Joan Ann, I have been just now to the Eircom phone pages site and looked up a number quite successfully I'm glad to say! It was a little slow at first to achieve a find for me but sure that will improve with time. As a matter of interest I clicked on the link in your email and it brought me there! I must now go back there and add that site to my 'favourites'. They do indeed welcome feedback about their site so it's a great opportunity for anyone who would like to see any improvements to get in touch with them. There is a draw for those who do and you can win an LCD TV, how's about that then! Many thanks Tony ----- Original Message ----- From: Joan Ann Brosnan To: vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, August 07, 2009 12:27 AM Subject: [vip_students] Re: Free Telephone Directory Enquiries Hi Tony You could try the Eircom phone book online at www.eircomphonebook.ie Joan Ann. ----- Original Message ----- From: Tony Sweeney To: vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, August 06, 2009 10:59 PM Subject: [vip_students] Re: Free Telephone Directory Enquiries Gerry, The personal touch is a continuing issue with me with this land of technology! Yes the service of 196 is great but the other day I rang and gave my name. I was asked abruptly for my pin, but not my name first! They had my name of course, which I firstly gave them bbut they took me through their rigmarool firstly so I could get the number I required which I needed fairly quickly! Am not easily daunted I assure you but it "knocked me for six" as they say! Am looking now at the internet options for getting telephone numbers I need. Anyone now tell me how to get telephone numbers re the net? It's a great service and I do not know of any other company that provides it. Over the years I have come to know some of the telephonists in Cork, Tralee and Dublin. For some unknown reason two weeks ago a new system was introduced which introduces the service: 'welcome to 196 free directory enquiries'. Then, as previously the individual telephonist introduces themselves by way of a digital recording with words such as'hello may I help you?'. Now however they do not say their name. I know from speaking to a number of them that they think this is crazy and prefer to keep the personal touch. I rang Eircom Customer Care and my suggestion/complaint was logged for some meeting to be held next month. May I invite you if you feel the same to ring or email eircom to ask for a return to the practice of including the telephonists name when introducing the service? Please feel free to share this suggestion/email with others. Bring back the personal touch. Thanks, Gerry
