[vicsireland] MP3 player advice wanted

Hi folks,
A friend is seeking information on mp3 players. Though partially sighted,
she’s not particularly interested in accessibility.
Basically, she just wants to be able to download and play audio books, so
factors such as spoken menus, making recordings, listening to podcasts,
web radio, listening to or reading text, don’t apply.
She’s currently using audio cds with a portable cd player.
If there was just 1 book on the player at a time, navigation shouldn’t be
difficult.
Perhaps some of the Creative devices? I assume once a book is downloaded
to a pc, it’s a simple matter of copying to the Creative player?
Alternatively, I suppose an 8 GB iPod would also do, but you’d have to
download to iTunes, and transfer from there, I assume?
Are most audiobooks on sites like South Dublin Library and NCBI, MP3or WMA?
Am I right in thinking that portable players won’t play protected WMA?
Are there factors I may have forgotten?
