Thanks for that Mark, the list did allow the attachment through and it will prove very useful for the future, as I hope it will for other list users. That ribbon was indeed the crap file menue I was referring to. Believe it or not I am using Microsoft Word for years and have been using the file menu rather then hot keys for things like formatting and inserts such as footnotes page numbers etc. When I received my new computer with Microsoft 2007 that ribbon nearly cracked me up.

The attached file (if the list allows attachments) contains a complete
listing of Word 2007 shortcuts. There are a lot of them! It also
includes information about keyboard access to the ribbon which you
might find useful. I assume that's what you mean by "the crap file
menu system".
