Hi Gerry,

The Bush box is still out for home testing. I haven't received a report yet.

We know that there are only two such accessible set top boxes available anywhere in the world and no TVs at present. There is another box shortly due to be released in Australia, from a different manufacturer. I am talking to a company involved in the software for that box and they are interested in developing another box that will be configurable to work in a lot of different countries, including Ireland. I cannot say any more about it unfortunately because I have signed a non-disclosure agreement. Otherwise they wouldn't talk to me at all.

Mark,

As we draw to the end of this year and the countdown is on to the change over, I am sure as you are well aware that many visually impaired people would like to know the progress made with trials of the Ausi bush set top box. At this point, the whole digital thing is utterly in our faces and as people are tempted to change tv's or buy the standard set top box I know from queries on the vics list etc that they would rather purchase something that would be accessible.

Regarding my question on the accessibility of digital tv sets, did the Australians whom you were in contact have any lead on such accessible digital tv sets?
Regards

Gerry

Hi Gerard,

Regarding saorview approved digital T.V.s, with spoken screen menus, I'm sorry to report that there are none at the moment. I can't answer your second question about the connections because I simply don't know.

Hi Mark,

just a few more questions to bambosel you in regard to the testing of the accessible Ausi bush Set top box:

1. In relation to the saorview approved digital T.V.s, have you come across a model which has accessible screen reading enhancement for blind people to access the on screen menus.

2. Does the set top box in testing have a storage capacity. I saw a soarview approved box which had a storage capacity for recorded material.

3. Presently in the analogue situation, I plug in my ariel to the rear of my video recorder and a link cable connects the video recorder to the tv. You know the set up. Do you think that it will require a set top box to operate on the same basis or will to jacks be needed on a set top box to facilitate the tv and the video recorder.

thanks
Gerry
