The committee look forward to seeing some of you there. Ciaran Directions to the Irish Computer Society Crescent Hall, Mount Street Crescent, Dublin 2 Travelling by bus to Mount Street Crescent If you have to get there under your own steam travelling to the venue by bus is by far the easier option Bus Numbers 10 and 10A are very regular but the 10C is less frequent and all pass through O'Connell Street and travel to Baggot Street where you will get off. Where to Locate Bus Stops travelling to the venue O'Connell Street On the Gresham side of O'Connell Street walk down towards O'Connell Bridge, When you pass North Earl Street on your left hand side the first bus stop past North Earl Street is where you can catch any of the buses listed above. Nassau Street For those meeting around the gates of Trinity College Walk towards Grafton Street, the road is to your right and the railings of Trinity are to your left. Follow the railings around into Nassau Street. Continue walking until to hear the bleep of the traffic lights, these lights are situated at the junction of Nassau Street and Dawson Street, the road is still to your right and the railing of Trinity is still to the left. The first bus stop past these traffic lights is where you catch any of the number 10 busses Bus Route The bus travels along Nassau Street, turns right on to Kildare Street, then left on to Saint Stephens Green and down into Baggot Street. The fourth bus stop on Baggot Street is where you should ask the driver to let you off the bus. This bus stop is directly outside the Mercy International Centre. This is a building run by the Sister's of Mercy and there is a large sign on the front of the building, which says Mercy International Centre, so all bus drivers should be familiar with it. When you get off the bus turn to your right and walk down Baggot Street in the direction the bus is going, the road is to your right and the buildings are to your left. Walk for a few yards until you reach a step down, this is Herbert Street. You need to cross Herbert Street. When I investigated the route there was very little traffic entering or exiting this Street. When you reach the footpath on the other side of Herbert Street turn to your left and start walking down Herbert Street, the road is to your left and the buildings are to your right. A few yards down the Street you will cross a lane way to your right. Continue walking for another few minutes until you reach the end of Herbert Street. At the end of Herbert Street turn right into Mount Street Crescent and proceed along the footpath for about 25 paces. Your cane should then detect a gap or open space, you have now reached the bottom of the ramp which leads up to the ICS building. Walking To Mount Street Crescent For those meeting outside Trinity College, walk towards Grafton Street, the road is to your right and the railings of Trinity are to your left. Follow the railings around into Nassau Street. Continue walking until to hear the bleep of traffic lights, these lights are situated at the junction of Nassau Street and Dawson Street, the road is still to your right and the railing of Trinity is still to the left. Continue walking straight for about a minute or so and you will hear the bleep of another set of traffic lights. Keep walking straight ahead until the wall of Trinity starts to veer left, this is Lincoln Place. However, located to your right is a set of traffic lights that you will cross. When you reach the footpath on the other side take about 10 paces straight ahead then turn to your left. If you don't take the 10 paces in from the kerb but turn immediately your will end up back out on the road as the footpath is at an angle. Having turned left on the footpath walk straight ahead, you are walking down Claire Street now and the buildings are to the right and the road is to the left of you. Continue for about 15 yards and you will pass a side turn to your right. Continue straight ahead and at about 20 yards along the footpath the building recede a few yards but if you keep walking straight ahead your cane will locate the buildings again on the other side. Walk straight ahead for another 20 yards or so and you are now at the corner of Merrion Square West. Cross straight ahead at the lights on to Merrion Square itself. These lights have a barrier in the centre of them, so when you reach the lights in the centre of the road, turn to your right and take about five or six paces, then turn to your left and continue straight across to the other side of the road. Continue walking straight ahead for about 2 minutes or so you are walking along Merrion Square North, the road is to your left and the railings of Merrion Square are to your right. Near the end of Merrion Square North you will pass a bus shelter, veer to your left to avoid it and continue straight ahead to the traffic lights and cross to the other side of the road. When you mount the footpath on the other side turn to your right the road is to your right and the buildings to your left. This is Merrion Square East. It is a straight walk to the next set of lights at the corner of Mount Street Upper. At these traffic lights continue straight across the road. On mounting the footpath on the other side turn to your left and proceed along Mount Street Upper, the road is to your left and the buildings to your right. You will cross a side turn to your right. Continue straight ahead for a few minutes and you will cross a small entrance to a building, there is however a step down and a step up at this point. Directly after that the wall begins to veer around to the right, continue for about eight or ten paces around to the right and then move towards the kerb on your left, you need to take the eight to ten paces around to the right because the corner on the other side of the street where your are heading is otherwise at an angle. The Street you are crossing is Herbert Street. When you reach the footpath on the other side of Herbert Street walk straight ahead for about 25 paces when your cane should then detect a gap or open space, you have now reached the bottom of the ramp, which leads up to the ICS building. -----Original Message----- From: vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ciaran Ferry Sent: 23 January 2008 23:12 To: vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [vicsireland] VICS Presents Accessibility Seminar Hi all, In conjunction with the Irish Computer Society, I am proud to announce details of the first lunchtime seminar on accessible information technology to be hosted by VICS.
