Michael,
Could you ask your friend to say exactly which version of NVDA it is? This
can be found in the about dialog under help on the NVDA menu.
All the best,
Cearbhall

Many thanks for doing this.
This is an official release of NVDA from nvaccess. I'll ask him to get the
sighted user to try the below suggestion and get back to you.
Regards,
Michael

Michael,
I forwarded your query to the NVDA developers list. Can you answer the
questions put by Jamie below? I will forward it to the list when you are
ready and maybe we can get an answer for your friend.
All the best,

I'm not sure why it's happening. It's certainly not normal behaviour on
Windows 10. What if a sighted user double clicks the desktop shortcut
without running as admin? In general, users should never run NVDA (or most
other normal applications) as administrator, as that represents a security
risk. Also, be certain that this is an official release of NVDA from
nvaccess.org.

Hi List Members
A friend of mine installed the latest version of NVDA on a Windows 10
system. The NVDA shortcut Alt+Cntrl+N which is used to launch NVDA
isn't working and neither is the application loading at bootup even
though the tick box for AutomaticallyStart NVDA at login is ticked.
When a sighted user clicks on the NVDA icon and chooses run as
administrator the application works perfectly.
Any one have any ideas why this is happening and how the problem can
be rectified?
All the best,
Cearbhall
