Hi, Karyn,

I do live in the Northeast, so we are very much in the habit of checking for
ticks on all our animals as well as ourselves every day. I have even found
ticks on my horses in the middle of February, although it is definitely
frozen outside, and heaven only knows why ticks would be active at that
time. But there is a silver lining to the tick problem--it seems to me that
a person using the sense of touch can find ticks in the hair coats of
animals at least as effectively, if not more effectively, than those using
sight to accomplish the task. I am usually the one to discover ticks on our
animals, even on my friend's horses.

Both my husband, Dennis, and I have been tested for Lyme after finding ticks
on ourselves. My test was negative, but my husband tested very high in all
measures of the test. He was treated for Lyme disease, even though he had
no symptoms of the disease. The antibiotics messed up his digestive system
for a while, but that was resolved by a course of probiotics.

Quite a few of the horses in the barn where my horses lived until we moved
them to the new place have also been diagnosed with Lyme disease, usually
after the vets have tried to pin down their diverse and ever-changing
symptoms to a specific cause without success. Finally, someone insists on a
Lyme test, and, low and behold, it comes up positive. Most of the cases I'm
aware of have been successfully treated. So do stay positive and encouraged
for Thane's complete recovery and quick and happy return to full work mode.

Best wishes to both you and Thane,
Ann
