I've completely quit purchasing treats from the store. Belle will stand on her head for peanut butter or venison. I haven't figured out a nonmessy way of distributing the peanut butter, so that's an at home only treat. The venison I just cut into tiny bits and put on cookie sheets in the oven on a very low temp until they are cooked and thoroughly dried out. I'm remembering about 1 and 1/2 hours on 200 degrees, but I'm guessing there. I usually just poke it to see how close it is. Then Iput half a cup or so into ziplock bags and freeze. It will keep in the refrigerator for a few days or out at room temp for a couple of hours. or at least that's how long I'm comfortable leaving it at room temp. I would think you could use this same method for any sort of meat.
