Hi David,
There is a TalkBack setting under the Speech subset for enabling TalkBack to
speak when the screen is off. You might need to check which “resume from
suspend” option (also under TalkBack settings) you have selected as well.

Android talk back app is very useful. However I am coming to terms with the
reader. The problem I am having is that the reader stops when the screen goes
into sleep mode. Is there a setting that can be turned on to solve this problem.
