True Quentin I know i got my nephew to look at settings in my phone so he turned off talkback. And wen he turned it back on i only had speech and no vibrations or feed back so I found it hard to use.

So he turned the touch back on and all was good again.
cheers Michael.

Could be - I must admit, I've never quite worked out why you would
(deliberately) want that?

If that is the case, it will read out things but only once you've
activated / gone into them. Explore by touch is what you use to either
swipe from one item to the next so you can double tap on the one you
want, or drag your finger around the screen and it will announce what
you move your finger over.

To turn explore by touch on, you need to (you might need sighted help as
it's tricky if explore by touch isn't working):
- Open settings
- go to Accessibility
- Talkback
- Settings

Then some of the key options are:

- Keyboard echo - does pretty much what it says, reads back characters
as you type them.
- Speak caller ID - reads out the name or phone number as you receive a
call so you can decide whether to answer it.
- Sound feedback - non spoken audio feedback for things like it beeps in
a higher pitch as you scroll towards the end of a list or a lower pitch
as you move back up towards the top.
- Explore by touch - as mentioned above, lets you drag your finger
around the screen and tells you what you are over - very useful!

There are others but they are the main ones which control what Talkback
tells you when it's enabled (and of course before you go into the
talkback settings there is a switch to turn talkback on or off - you
kind of want that on for it to work ;)

Regards

Quentin.

Hi,

I'm not quite sure I understand the problem you are having?

You do need to turn talkback on for any device - except one I came
across recently which was specifically setup with Talkback already on (I
posted to the group about it) - usually once you've turned it on, it
will stay on until you turn it off, even if you restart your phone. If
it's not working, maybe check that you haven't muted the sound?

Regards

Quentin.
