Hi everyone,

Someone asked me about accessible dictionary apps recently so I had a bit of a
look and made some notes on the top few results from the play store. I thought
I'd pass them on here in case anyone else is interested in a basic English
dictionary (A lot of them will let you download files for other languages or
translation dictionaries though to be honest I wasn't looking for that at the
time and didn't make any notes on it).

My personal favourites were either "Offline dictionary" by NGHS.fr or
"Wordweb". I made some brief notes on each of them below though.

Dictionary.com (by Dictionary.com llc) - the read aloud buttons and several
others are unlabelled but most text reads. Definitions read disjointedly as
just about every word is a link able to be followed to find that word's
definition (I couldn't get page granularity to work here).

Oxford dictionary (by Mobile Systems) - I couldn't get this to read at all with
Talkback.

Dictionary - Merriam Webster - (by Merriam Webster) again reads disjointedly
and more unlabelled buttons. I went to try again two days later and the trial
period had expired.

Offline dictionary - (by NGHS.fr) $1.99 or free with ads. Works well and reads
full definitions straight through which is easier to listen to though to look
up individual words contained in the definition of the first word you would
need to do a separate search.

English Dictionary - offline (by Livio) - most buttons unlabelled and
definitions read very disjointedly.

Dictionary (by Farlex) - most buttons are unlabelled and it can take a bit of
swiping to get around, definitions read better than some of the others once you
get to them, though still have to swipe a couple of times through each.

Dictionary offline (by Ting Studio) - couldn't download dictionary (Might have
been our network as I was trying to do it at work and the English dictionary
was 144MB - I did try the Italian dictionary which was much smaller but that
wouldn't download either).

WordWeb by Wordweb - Reads ok once you set reading granularity to page on the
definition however every second word is followed by "Link". Buttons are
labelled though which is nice.

Regards

Quentin.
