Ok, the weather was crummy this morning. I spend about three hours at 42nd Street this morning and only saw/heard about 25 species. However, as everyone knows, it's QUALITY not quantity. The following warblers were seen/heard: Prothonotary, Yellow-throated, Yellow-rumped, Black and White, Northern Parula, and someone else I ran into saw a couple of Black-throated Blues. I had thought I heard one while listening to a Parula, but wasn't 100% sure. Other birdy highlights were one Robin gathering mud for nesting material; another Robin actually in a nest; a singing Wood Thrush; four Ruby-crowned Kinglets; two Catbirds; Red-eyed, White-eyed, and Blue-headed Vireos; dozens of Cedar Waxwings; and two Yellow-billed Cuckoos calling (never did see either one). There may have also been a Rose-breasted Grosbeak calling. Gulls, geese, and butterflies were virtually non-existent. Wish I could say the same for the Starlings and the Cowbirds and the Poison Ivy! Beware - Poison Ivy is rampant this year. Michael Shapiro northside You are subscribed to VA-Richmond-General.
