Marshall Reinsdorf, Janet Siddle and I counted Area 4 for the NoVa Audubon
today. Our area covered Dyke Marsh north to Daingerfield Island and Cameron
Run. Waterfowl were scarce (all at Belmont Bay, I guess). Highlights were a
common loon, 2 pied-billed grebes, 7 red-breasted mergansers, a peregrine on a
crane at the Wilson Bridge, and a black-crowned night heron behind the power
plant. Passerine highlights included 2 flyover American pipits at Dyke, 2
singing winter wrens at Dyke, and a single yellow-rumped warbler at Washington
Marina.
Here are our waterfowl totals:
common loon - 1
pied-billed grebe - 2
