My folks live in Williamsburg, and get lots of yard birds in Ford's Colony
This morning my mom reports seeing a bird she describes as all red with a
glossy black head, or hood. No crest, but about the size of a cardinal. She
was struck but the distinct separation of the black hood and red body, and
doesn't remember seeing anything on the wings. She didn't get a very long
look, and isn't really a birder, but says that it was the morning so she hadn't
been drinking!!! I looked in all my books but the closest I could come up with
was oriole or towhee, but she says no way, the separation of colors was much
cleaner. I checked a couple of pages of accidentals, but didn't find anything
there, either. Anyone care to offer a guess?
Thanks,
Dan
