Hello VAbirders,
Garden work has been sporadic here due to the many rainy, stormy days. I'm
trying to catch up, have much to do. I have a bumper crop of Cardinal
Flower aka Lobelia cardinalis this season. I also have a number of other
wildlife plants that need good homes, including some shrubs and small
trees. If any of you wildlife gardeners or wildlife gardener wannabees out
there would like some plants, they are free for the asking.
I'm trying to stick close to home so I can work in the garden at every
opportunity until I go on the road again at the end of this month,
so email or call soon to see if I'm here so you can stop by to pick up
plants. A few are potted up, others are still in the ground, so be sure to
bring a bucket or two to put un-potted plants in to tote home. One clump
of Cardinal Flower should yield 6 or so plants.
Birds seen/heard today were:
Rose-breasted Grosbeak - 3 beautiful males spent the day visiting our
feeders
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Scarlet tanager - female
YRumped Warbler - of course
N. Parula
Red-eyed Vireo
Cedar Waxwing
