The pond at Dulles (by the Marriott) is always worth a visit. I once saw a
Bald Eagle actually hit the water there to catch a fish. Mostly waterfowl,
but you never know what's going to show up. One of the strangest things
about this little pond is the grassy island in the middle, that somehow
supports a family of groundhogs... (do groundhogs swim??? How did they get
there?)
A little further out, you have Beaverdam Reservoir

And the Dulles Wetlands are always worth a visit as well (Rt. 50 south of
Leesburg)
and I've had some good luck at Claude Moore Park in Sterling

One thing to keep in mind about that list is that Goose Creek Dam has been
closed to visitors since 9/11...
